Selin testifies at House hearing on mercury

On Tuesday, May 21, Noelle Selin testified before the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce. She presented research conducted with Dr. Amanda Giang showing the benefits to the U.S. of mercury reductions.
The hearing examined the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) recent proposal that says limiting mercury and other air toxics from coal and oil-fired power plants is not “appropriate and necessary” under the Clean Air Act. View her testimony and find more information about the hearing here.

Congrats to Dr. Mingwei Li, who successfully defended her PhD dissertation entitled “Impacts of Emission Policies in China on Air Pollution and Human Health” on May 13, 2019. Dr. Li’s dissertation involves three papers, one of which, on air quality co-benefits for climate policy in China, has already been published in Nature Climate Change. Congratulations on your great work.

Research on PCBs featured in EOS

Our new study, in collaboration with the Biogeochemistry of Global Contaminants group at Harvard, and led by Harvard PhD student Charlotte Wagner, was featured in the AGU journal EOS on May 7. The findings suggest that in the coming years, climate change will have a significant impact on the life span and distribution of PCBs.
Mercury paper awarded by ES&T

Our paper “A Critical Time for Mercury Science to Inform Global Policy” by Chen et al. was recognized as the second runner-up best feature article in the journal Environmental Science & Technology for 2018. The paper synthesized the science of mercury as presented at the 2017 International Conference on Mercury as a Global Pollutant.
